Thursday, March 4, 2004 8:51 PM

oORachelOo

ooooh! Where do you play?! I love hockey!!!

Thursday, March 4, 2004 9:10 PM

Dan3223

I play down in brandon..... i dont play for USF for a few reasons. #1. i work during the games (i actually drive the zamboni during them) #2. No time or money.. and #3... i have only been playing for a few years.. so i'm not really good enough :\ .

KazyKollegeGirl

Ive seen you at the game; if you want they make out a payment plan so you dont have to pay all at once, and the only way you'll get better is if you play. We had a practice squad and those guys play 3rd line now... just a few games into the season, so just keep it in mind... plus its 6am practice 2 a week, so your days and nights are free

I'm doing pre-dentistry too, that's pretty cool, I don't run into too many people like that.

I used to drive the zam at the ISF also.... worked there when it first opened. i could zam between public skates in 7 minutes flat... we used to get that thing sideways on the turns... good times

Wednesday, March 10, 2004 7:26 AM

Dan3223

That's cool.... it's a great job.... I've been doing it for about 3 years now. I used to work at JP Igloo before i moved here for school.

Those shin guards and skates look Ghetto (with a capital 'G').
It's amazing that you could ever play in that junk!
But even more amazing... the fact that your hair looks the same after a game of hockey as it did before you put a helmet on! Now THAT takes some skills!

Monday, March 22, 2004 8:26 AM

Dan3223

Mmm Hmm.... that's why i got new ones
LOL.... oh, and you can replace broken pads...
but last time i checked you can't replace a broken knee

Monday, March 22, 2004 9:57 AM

Brugger

So who GAVE you shin guard upgrades? Oh yeah, that's right, ME!
And yes, the knee is a little, ummmm, injured.

However, who wins three-bar four times out of five? WHILE being broken!??!
That's right, Brugger does.
You can replace pads in a day, but it takes years to develop the skill!

Monday, March 22, 2004 10:07 AM

Dan3223

ok, well you have been playing 4 times as long as I have....
and i can beat you 1 out of 5 times.....
so what does that say about your "skill" ????

Monday, March 22, 2004 10:12 AM

Brugger

It means that I'm 4x as good as you! Clearly the ratio is 4:1 in my favor.
That's what it says about my hockey skills... What does that say about your math skills?

If you're looking for a fight, that's fine because It's On Like Donkey Kong!

*DING* *DING*

PsychBull

You guys win for best use of smilies in a thread. Congrats.

Monday, March 22, 2004 10:25 AM

Dan3223

No... that says that in my short time playing hockey,
i have developed enough skill to beat a "seasoned" player.
My learning curve is clearly higher.
So give it about a year.... and i will be able to kick your ass all over the ice.
oh, and you may have more puck control than me...
but i can skate circles around your slow ass

Monday, March 22, 2004 10:40 AM

Sk8aBull

so very true.

Monday, March 22, 2004 10:51 AM

Brugger

Maybe I'm too much of a seasoned veteran since my knee is all banged up! LOL

Last time i checked, puck control was a HUGE part of the game as opposed to speed.
Especially since you can't score goals without the puck! What good does it do you when you skate circles around me but can't hold onto the puck? That's fine for public skating or figure skating... but not hockey!

And sure, maybe you can skate circles around me, but a simple equation will level the playing field:
p=mv
That is to say that momentum is equal to mass times velocity.
Truth be told i have at least 50 pounds on you. For our momentums to be equal (resulting in neither one of us to fall down) you would have to be traveling 6mph faster than me if i was going 15mph. So go ahead, tire yourself out skating around. It takes less work to push a stick and puck around than try to get moving 50% faster than me to try and knock me over. I won't even go into the center of gravity of an individual and the skill that it takes to check someone...

The math is there... Plain and simple...
Call me broken, call me slow, call me big; but none of that will even bring you close to my caliber of skill.

Monday, March 22, 2004 11:04 AM

Dan3223

My puck control will only get better with time...
However, your speed will not.
You will only get slower with time.
And it dosnt matter that it takes more speed for me to knock you down..
because wingers dont try to knock people down.
Their job is to skate around you big slow defenders, and score goals.
A winger wouldnt go around trying to knock defenders down.. That is just crazy talk.
So as soon as i develop my puck handling skill a little more,
I will be able to skate around you WITH the puck...
while you do your patented "Human Zamboni" across the ice
when you fall down trying to catch me.

Maybe your skill will get better, but so will mine.
Will i get slower? Sure. But we all hit a plateau of speed and with age (and injury) will slow down.
However, players who are full of piss & vinegar are okay to have on your team to chase the puck, but the smart player will always win.

Okay, so you're a winger and i'm a defender in this example. You come flying in with your newly found stick-handling, but a smart defender (me) will play the angles. The defender and goalie (shout out to Sulli) will have the advantage by forcing you to the outside and taking a shot from a bad angle. You have a better chance of passing the puck than deeking me (hence why i win in three-bar).

In the next scenario, there's a winger who goes around "knocking defenders down." It's NOT crazy talk. Clearly you're unfamiliar with the "Dump and Chase." In this play (yes, hockey has plays), the first forward dumps the puck into the corner. The second forward gives chase. Now, when that defender gets the puck, if he doesn't get hit, he'll clear the puck easily. But, i guarantee that if that defender gets hit, he'll think twice about going after that puck in the corner the next time. This is a staple play for ALL teams of ALL skill levels.

Bottom line, hockey is a very physical sport. However, more importantly, hockey is a complex sport. Out-thinking and not out-working your opponent will work 10x better than skating circles around players.

And as for the "Human Zamboni" ---> I don't just "fall down"... I have to cool off somehow! Geez! I know you won't make the shot Mr.StoneHands!

OK... i have a solution to this little arguement.
You and I.. midnight hockey.. this weekend.
Loser pays for half of the beer.
(winner will pay the remaining half..lol )

lets think.... u just wanna prove that you are of equal skill than he, then go out drinking and split the tab I like your thoughts, or just the drinking ones

Monday, March 22, 2004 11:56 AM

Brugger

That's the best part of hockey...
You can trash talk the whole game, call their mother every name in the book, and kick the shit out of one another...
But when it's all said and done, you can go drink beer together!

Hockey Rocks!
*Cheers*

mmmmmmm.... beer... that reminds me that i have class at 11.... still a few more :::opens up another bottle of bud light::: drinks
