people can disagree and not be offended by it and still get along.. i don't know why some people have to get personal about it.. i'm pretty sure my political beliefs don't affect my ability to get married!
there is nothing wrong with people taking a stand politically.. being able to exercise our right to choose our president and express our opinions freely is what makes america so great. however i have no respect for personal bashing because of who i vote for, it is unfounded and immature!

i'm all for morality being tied into government.. without morality in the world, there would be chaos. no right/wrong at all. people shouldn't be allowed by their government to do things that are bad for themselves and the whole of society.

^^who gets to decide the morality though? Who decides what is right and what is wrong? Letting the government tell you what you can and cannot do can be dangerous, just look at dictatorships. Discussions, ideas, and possible actions are very important to the growth of a society. If they're limited by what one group deems "morals" you leave out a lot of people.

The consensus of the citizens should decide. And if you can't live with it, there are other countries may do it the way you like. I'm not saying, "If you don't agree, get out!" I'm saying that you have a choice... don't act like you don't.

oh no don't get me wrong, i don't think that the president should be able to say "this is what is right to me, and therefore this is law". that's why there are checks and balances in the government, so no single person or branch gets too much power and makes decisions that are unreasonable and not agreed upon by a majority. not everyone is going to agree on every subject, that's why we have different political parties. what i do think is that a majority of america has backed the president and has reelected him for another term, and i am happy that the morals and values that have been instilled in me will continue to be the morals and values instilled in america.

hey if majority chooses republicans for office, then so be it, it doesn't change the fact that there is a checks and balances system in effect. the judicial branch plays a role in this as well that is based on america's constitution, which is neither republican nor democratic... nor associated with any particular religion

all i was trying to say is that in my opinion it is wrong to base morals on religion and try to force them on other people. what is "moral" for one religion may be against another, and there are too many times that exceptions are not made...hence the separation of church and state, which isn't always upheld

on the topic of compromise, kerry was right when he said we're a divided nation. i really hope that in this term GW will try to lessen that and make america more unified and stand behind our president.
back in the day, people were being forced to attend a certain church and worship a certain way or risk being punished by law.. hence separation of church and state and religious freedom. i don't think that separation of church and state was ever meant to be interpreted as "no moral or religious influences on law". after all, we are one nation under God right?

(The moral thing to do is not to judge someone on their sexual preference.) Did anyone skip the part in religion class where they said not to judge others. They even taught that in CATHOLIC SCHOOL. People vote on morals but don't look realistically into what effects of the implementation of those morals. I'm all for morality, but more for reality. For example: how can a government spurn sex education and then attempt to ban abortions so quickly? Logically, if better sex education were implemented not as many abortions would occur. Granted, the want for abortions will always be there and they shouldn't be as accessable, but the choice shouldn't be eliminated.
