Nice pic of the garand on the flag... reminds me of the last time I went to a range, and shot my bud's garand:
I was there, and everyone was shooting their handguns and small rifles. A shooting coach was looking at me load the en-bloc in, and had a smile on his face. I pulled the trigger - *BLAM!*. The range fell silent as everyone started looking towards me, probably thinking the damn thing blew up. The coach's student said "What the hell was THAT?" The coach responded "That's an M-1 Garand. That's the sound of freedom."

Thanks
The M1 is my favorite rifle of all time. I would take an M-14 over it for actual battle use any day but the Garand is just an absolute blast to shoot. No pun intended. It's way more fun than my AR. I get the same thing everytime I shoot it. People stop and come ask me what I'm firing. I love .30-06
The ping... it's all about the ping from the enbloc clip ejecting. lol
boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, ping!

I'm (hopefully) getting a garand soon through CMP. Best place to get 'em without spending a fortune. Also just dropped $80 on Korean non-corrosive surplus .30-06 today, but that's not bad for 400rnds.
I agree: the M-14 is a better battle rifle, even just for the fact that it takes the 20rnd detachable mags that are easily reloaded, and that the .308 weighs less than the .30-06, round for round, eventhough ballistics are almost identical.
...and the 14 is fully auto as well. =)

Everybody loves wops, don't even play like you don't love dagos. Without us, the arabs would have a monopoly on oil.
I'm currently negotiating a contract with the Shell Oil Co to place a couple of refineries in my hair. Hopefully my dreams of early retirement shall come true.

You know, when I first saw this pic, I was like, "Man, that's a cheek that I'd like to whallop with my fist."
But after meeting you, getting to talk to you, I can say that you're a purty cool guy. I can also forgive that you're a bleedin' Ay-Tai. I won't let that stand in the way of our friendship.

^ sure it is. What's not PC about a man, taking a picture of himself, with an American flag and an American battle rifle in the background?
Joe: I finally got my own Garand - 1944 Springfield, w/ a 1942 AFH bayo to go with it. =)
We need to get a "WWII Revisited: USFBS-style" range day going... =)

^ CMP?
I hope to order an '03 and a WWII manufacture Field Grade Springfield (not Lend-Lease) by the end of next month from CMP. Depends on if I spend any money at the gun show this coming weekend.
I've really been bitten by the dreaded C&R bug, too. I'm waiting for my application from the ATF for a C&R FFL License!
Fucking military small arms, I swear...

Actually, it's not CMP. I got it from a buddy of mine on the CHEAP ($400 WITH the Bayonet). Nice deal, ehh? =)
I might get my C&R one of these days. Then again, I might just skip that, get an FFL, and open up shop...
