This image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope on February 8, 2004 and released March 4, is the latest view of an expanding halo of light around a distant star, named V838 Monocerotis (V838 Mon). The illumination of interstellar dust comes from the red supergiant star at the middle of the image, which gave off a flashbulb-like pulse of light two years ago. Astronomers said the image of the distant expanding star bears a striking resemblance to Vincent van Gogh's painting 'The Starry Night.'

Yeah, that resembles post-impressionism all right. It is beautiful, though.

I wouldn't say that the nebula has a striking resemblance to Vincent Van Gogh's painting; but maybe Vincent Van Goh's painting has a striking resemblance to the nebula.
If anything, I would say that it was surrealist because it SEEMS that the halo consists of three people grabbing each other's arms, and encircling a forlorn looking monster. Oh, and one of the people is getting eaten by a phoenix or something.
