Description:
Front page of the Oracle - "tits" instead of "its". Apparently a system crash forced them to rush an unedited version into print.

I'll have to settle with tits on this one.

this is old but did anyone hear about that damn visitor sign being spelled wrong? i mean they had a whole segment about it on the news!!!

Saturday, February 26, 2005 10:20 PM

Imperfect Clark

Old? This was Thursday's paper!

Tell me more about this visitor sign error..

Sunday, February 27, 2005 12:01 AM

razmatazz9

its the sign by the visitor building which is close to the main entrance right? they said it was spelled vistior or something like that. there was an "i" in the wrong place and it's been like that for awhile.

i thought maybe it was old news b/c i saw the segment about it awhile ago. i just thought it was stupid to have like a 10 mintue segment about it.

tits a common mistake.

Tits true. The Quark program that we use to format the paper crashed about 5 minutes before deadline. It was a rush job to recreate the pages we lost and yes, we sent it without double checking because it was one in the morning and waaaay past deadline.

Besides, I'm not one to argue against boobies, intentional or not.

Shiiit. Pagemaker 7.0...

If I got involved with the Oracle there would be big changes! Big changes!

Sunday, February 27, 2005 8:24 AM

yummy247

I don't know what OS our Macs are, probably something really old.

And what are your big changes, big changes?

Sunday, February 27, 2005 8:31 AM

Meems

......Pagemaker isn't an OS and doesn't have anything to do with that statement you made.....

Most kids think that:
A) the paper has shit content
B) it's politically biased
And sheesh, ya'll need some better photos.

I won't tell you my "big changes" in detail because that's worthless, but I'd get crackin on A and B so more kids pick up the paper - or take it more seriously.

Okay fiesty, Pagemaker 7.0 requires OS 9.1 or higher for Macs, which I doubt the Oracle has so we probably have a reason for not using it.

I mostly agree with A, probably should agree with B, and I dunno about pics but you're probably right about that too. But if you've been paying attention, you'd know that we've changed EICs three times in the last four months. It's hard to organize the staff amidst such turbulence. Our latest EIC is great though, and he's aware of all the problems you listed and he's working on them as fast and hard as he can. Why don't you come apply? We're always hiring if you're talented.

I'm a little disappointed because I thought that with all Meems opinions, she must have some good ideas, but instead all she barfs out are insults. Any uneducated idiot can criticize something and point out what's wrong with it. It takes insight, imagination and talent to fix the problem.

Sunday, February 27, 2005 8:59 AM

Meems

I'm not on staff so I'm not going to just give you guys my ideas.
And I don't want to be on staff either.

And those insults are my opinions as well. Ex: The paper is crap.

But I guess I'll give you one idea: If your computers are the problem, and old as balls, work on funding so that next time you don't have to format the paper and risk losing it.
Or heck, back it up....
I've dealt with shitty computers. Backing an important file up before you fuck with it is definitely a smart move.

~gasps~ Oh geez, we didn't think of that!

For the amount of shit that we do to it, our computer environment is incredibly stable. There are always going to be problems, no matter how fantastic your equipment is. All that matters is how you cope with them. For example, insisting on proof-reading no matter what would be a good start...

Sunday, February 27, 2005 9:10 AM

Meems

You guys rushed to re-create pages, right? That means you didn't have it backed up in the first place.

Guess you'll learn from your mistakes.

Well. Thanks for that, ladies.

In conclusion, it says "tits" HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA.

Ummmm, Meems...with all due repsect, I dont think you know much about newspapers. NO ONE uses Pagemaker to layout papers. Quark Express is the industry standard. Furthermore, Pagemaker was replaced by InDesign in the Adobe lineup almost a year ago.

Second, you did want to be on staff, you applied for the photo job, remember? I do. I also remember that your work was not all that great, most of it was about as below average beginning photo work. If you would like to shoot for use, feel free to send me something better than what we have already. Quite frankly I dont think you posess that ability.

Do I need to continue, or was that enough?

He's right. Quark Express IS the standard.

Go look for my application, if I applied. Because I didn't. Number one I never emailed the dude, and number two Burnsy knows that I don't have a digital camera, which is what you guys required. I wanted to because I needed a job, until I started reading the paper. I was never told "No, you suck" because I never applied. There was a thread about it, which I got excited that I could maybe get some exposure. Oh, yeah, and if you saw the dates on my photography work you'd also see that the newest work I have is from almost a year ago. Most of the work in my gallery is from 2 or 3 years ago. So shove it.

And my bad, when I used Pagemaker to layout my school's paper that was 2 years ago. I haven't kept up because, well, what's the point? I'm not EIC of anything so it doesn't matter.

[Edited by Meems on 2/27/2005 11:15:46 AM. Reason for edit: Yea, by saying "Oh, I want to take pictures" that sure is an application.]

So you tell me, if I don't plan on being on a newspaper staff, and I am not on any sort of staff why I should keep up with what freakin' program they use. Hm?

You didn't even know it in the first place. You were ignorant about Pagemaker and all that BS too. Don't ride in on the coat-tails of the more informed to make me "look bad". It makes you look bad too.

God, you're not worth any more of my time. Go write some dribble for the paper.

Monday, February 28, 2005 8:50 AM

yummy247

I never did say that you should keep up with it. You were the one authoritatively running your mouth like you knew what you were talking about, it just turns out you were wrong. I'm not riding anybody's coat tails, I was honestly open to your suggestion. I'm not the one acting like I know all about everything to do with papers, that's you. I'm still laughing that you couldn't get hired at the Oracle.

I very much enjoyed reading this argument.

You both have valid points, but it took some kind of bitchy turn and now you're just being snotty to each other. I demand you two continue until it goes into four letter words.

Monday, February 28, 2005 10:58 PM

If you learned how to read, dumbass:

I DIDN'T EVEN APPLY.

I don't OWN A DIGITAL CAMERA. YOU GUYS REQUIRE A DIGITAL CAMERA.
All I have is an Olympus 0M-1, a camera no longer in production, made back when I was BORN.

It's also in my photo website. My last digi was a KodakDX3500 which is DEAD.

So fucking learn how to read.

Yeah, it did sort of degrade into a mud-slinging contest. I'm usually all up for mud wrestling, but... *shudders*
