Actually, the Garand was the greatest battle rifle ever made... even THE MAN said so...
However, I would still prefer my FN-FAL over a Garand in a firefight... larger mag, easily reloadable, and a plentiful supply of .308 ammo everywhere!

yes, Patton DID call the Garand the "greatest battle implement ever created". But, the M-14 is a modified Garand, using the lighter (yet almost ballistically-identical) .308 round, and the addition of the detachable magazine.
I LOVE Garands, Carbines, AR-15's, etc. But, if I was in the shit, I'd want an M-14 any day of the week (and twice on Sunday =) ).
