Retarded commercial. Here's the scoop on it: http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune_archive/2006/11/13/8393083/index.htm?postversion=2006103014

Eli did a helluva better job than those peeps. I want to get a Nikki Ole 3.

I have no idea who that this commercial is marketed to in order to sell these things. Everyone I know who has seen it was like, "wtf did I just watch?" It's creepy.

^ EXACTLY what I was getting ready to say. We are buzzing over this commercial... I'd say that does well to keep the PS3 fresh in people's minds. They have another one where a rubix cube explodes... that one's pretty sweet, I think.

Would you prefer an 80's style picture of nerds high-fiving each other while playing?

actually i always forget what it's for because the baby freaks me out enough to change the channel. :[

^^staying power and convincing power are two different things, yeah sure im talking about the freaky baby w/the gravity reverse tears but until I see screen shots and a playable demo on a kiosk im not putting any money on the ps3, the only people they're gonna get w/this type of advertisment is the hype crowd and they dont always by what's advertised seeing as some other "it" thing could distract them.

it's like someone saw chris cunningham's work and decided it made too much sense

^ lol

^^ I'm not saying that it's convincing anyone to buy a PS3. What it is doing is creating heightened awareness of its release.

awareness -> buzz -> curiosity -> interest -> desire -> -$600

i think the next commercial should be a bunch of 18-25 males sitting around with backwards hats and flip flops silently tapping away at a game that is slowly eating their souls away

I agree with some of the comments up there, but it's not like they have to or are planning to stop at this commercial.. The screen shots and such will come when it's time for the actual games to be advertised.. there's plenty of time for that. The first order of business is to generate the hype.. and the strongest of hype is typically based on mystery and imagination, rather than substance. They show screen shots right off the bat, then for a lot of people, there's no novelty involved. Something you've been exposed to for months won't seem all that new once it finally comes out. As a matter of fact, I'd probably keep the screen shots to a minimum prior to the release if I were Sony. Many people will feel like they have to have it, regardless of what they've seen, because it's the newest thing and it's heavily hyped... that combination usually leads to a healthy amount of demand.

well it comes out in a week, what are they waiting for? i guess there'll be plenty of time for word of mouth between the intial trickle release and the everyone-gets-one release.

it's bad in an artistic sense. it's derivative and boring. it makes me want to go watch flex to turn my brain back on.
