^only if you consider it serving post WWI into vietnam, and its derivative still being used by the military today (M14)

also the M1 Garand is still being produced today by the springfield armory. ruger also uses the garand's basic design in the mini 14 and mini 30 rifles.

it did for a bit till people learned to carry an empty ammo clip and toss it on the ground after a shot or 2. the enemy would jump around a corner expecting to see a reloading GI, only to meet his doom.

besides, how many soldiers patrolled alone.

Fuck that shit. General Patton didn't call it "the greatest battle implement ever designed" for nothing. The few shortcomings that it had were all remedied in the M-14, my favorite rifle of all time.

If the shit were to hit the fan, I'd have either an M-1 or an M-14 at my side...
