it's not .50BMG. The bullet doesn't protrude far enough from the casing to be it. The case necking is also too shallow for the caliber, and I've *never* seen a .50BMG soft-point. =)
I also highly doubt that it's .308 (7.62mm), because the case necking is again too shallow, and the bullet is too recessed.
I say it's .223 remington (5.56mm).

Sorry about the lack of size reference. It is a .30 cal round.
Hints:
It was very, very, popular for a long time. Most military calibers are. Developed in the late 1800's it has remained popular for well over a hundred years.
It has a rimmed and tapered case.

Then I'm gonna say .30-30.
Unfortunately, I'm just guessing at this point. I haven't had any experience w/ .30-30, but it looks like it.
See, the picture is kinda deceiving as well: I can't really see the taper OR the rim. =(

^Did you look at it before you ate it Nah. The 7.62x54 is rimmed also, but the proportions are not right.

yeah, I *know* 54r, and i sure-as-shit knew it wasn't that. The rim doesn't protrude enough, the bullet is too recessed into the neck, and it's not completely tapered like the 54r.
My final guess: 8mm Mauser.
(and that's an SVD magazine. good show!)
